just leave my memory away

today's title comes from kill me carolyne by the whigs, a new song gleaned from s-la's music library as a result of music day. oh, music day. it's such a good time. i have the whole harry potter musical now and spanish acoustic songs (they're playing right now)! it's pretty great.

my calc essay turned out pretty great, too, even though i ended up finishing it during early release. that was okay, though, since i ended up surrounded by a bunch (four) other procrastinators also doing their essays. oh, and i worked my procrastination into the essay by talking about how my lack of motivation to do calculus should be taken into account when planning for next year's students. except in snarkier, less sleep-deprived terms.

after that we went to see iron man 2...again. it's just that good.

robert downey jr. agrees
after that we had dinner at california tortilla (still in brambleton, sadly, since the lansdowne one went out of business) and were horrified by the actions of the hooligans and teenyboppers (these are real terms, okay?) who were milling about, stealing drinks and climbing trees willy nilly. it was awful. they were all like five years old and strolling around like they owned the place, or at least like they should be allowed to stroll around at all and not still be strapped to high chairs.

and then came music day. which, in case you hadn't heard, is awesome. music was shared. in a day, even.

...i know, i know. s-la and i are extremely creative namers. is namers even a word? i'm too tired to look it up, but safari isn't putting a little red line under it so i'll assume i can use it.

we watched our sophomore english project on macbeth, too. we recorded one of the acts. i was macbeth and s-la was lady macbeth. oh, and we were both murderers and witches and a few minor characters. leanne was banquo and every other character. as you can imagine, our acting skills were phenomenal. i don't sound monotone at all and it certainly wasn't strange to have a cross-dressing macbeth (i spent the majority of the project in tunics and dresses). at least steffi's editing was great - we had the coolest soundtrack. the bloopers and credits were the best part, though. for some reason meggo is credited as our hair stylist. the rest of it is a jamboree (oh, that's a fun word) or spatula-flinging, cheese it-eating, word-forgetting mistakes. oh, the good old days.

in other news, the momster transitioned between her rightful title (the momster) to That Woman and back several times today, mostly as a result of tiny, but highly annoying incidents. and then she and her assistant decided to have dinner at 9:30 (she's cray cray, okay?) while i was at s-la's. it was thai food and they remembered to bring home a meal for me, too. so clearly all is forgiven. the moral of this story? my heart will always be won via my stomach. that should probably worry me. one day i will have Moral Fiber (i think they sell it in pills at the grocery store, but the momster told me only old people use them and she wouldn't buy any) and will attempt to resist the lure of food, but until then...bring on the pineapple fried rice.

less exciting is the return of the mongol eyes. i can't even blame s-la's cat this time, since they didn't set in until i got home. the momster suspects that it just happened because i didn't take my allergy medicine today and it was finally nice out, but that doesn't explain why it looks like someone punched me in the face. seriously, the swelling - it's horrible. i look deranged. however, i'm heavily medicated now (but not the fun kinds; i kind of miss dr. cray cray. i've always wanted to try those crazy pills that let you hallucinate things, but during the lit and both econ exams i sat right next to the poster in the health room that tells you all the bad physiological effects drugs have on you so there's one dream deferred until...forever, actually) so hopefully it'll be gone by tomorrow morning. and if not, well...i guess i'll just become a hermit. i've always wanted to be one.

you don't get any youtube links today, since i'm dead tired right now. you can probably already tell that, though. i've got a feeling that there are typos and nonsensical sentences and horrible grammatical errors all over this post. i'll try to make it up to you tomorrow. maybe i'll even use capital letters! maybe.

they told me you missed school today

and they would be right, although i'm thinking that the stereophonics didn't write handbags and gladrags specifically for me.

in other words, the momster did something kind of crazy today. after lunch (and also after the calc exam which i sadly couldn't skip even though i should have since it, like all my exams but one, was held at an unearthly hour in what i hear is termed "the morning"), she called the school and told them we had a "family emergency" so i could get out of class. and then we went shopping and to final fittings of my prom dress since she was afraid i was getting too stressed. it was pretty awesome, even if her shopping habits manage to horrify me (don't ask how much she spent on foundation because it is not a pretty number). also, i finally got her a mother's day present, so there's one thing off my To Do list. oh, and then i went to godiva and had one of their dark chocolate raspberry drinks. it was almost as good as a frappucino.

oh, and then we went to borders and i picked up city of god, one of the books i was too broke to buy on my borders trip with s-la last week. i can't wait to start reading it. since i pretty much failed at leaving breakfast at tiffany's for after AP exams, i think it'll become my reward book, along with the tin drum, which i borrowed from sarah, even though i sort of already started reading that.

anyway, it's late and i have to be up early for the lit exam tomorrow, so i'm going to cut this short and leave you with music:

under marble movie skies

Today's title comes from Daniel by Bat For Lashes. I probably blogged about it last summer since her album, Two Suns, was one of my favorites last year.

In case the capital letters weren't enough to give it away, I'm blogging from my phone. It's been a while since I did this, but I felt a pressing urge to blog triggered by Lulu's attempted suicide that wouldn't let me wait until I got home.

Caught that, did you? Yeah, my genius of a headphone-eating dog got her leash tangled around the backseat of the car and then she jumped...and didn't quite hit the ground.

That's right: I am the proud owner of the only dog in existence that tried to hang itself on Route 7.

Don't worry, she's alright. I did a quick dive to the backseat and detached her from her leash, but not without flashing possibly every car on the road today. My life - it's occasionally horrible.

Proof? I decided to pick up a Calculus review book after all. Of course, since my dogs had just demonstrated a strong desire to play My Chemical Romance and cry tears of emo blackness before killing themselves (I might be hyperbolizing. Might) I had to wait in the car with them while the Momster headed into Borders to pick up our books. Before she left I asked her to check if they still had copies of Fight Club since I still don't own it. What did she buy instead? Three Calc review books (three!), Calc flashcards (and considering the giant flashcard project we have due on Wednesday, this is highly, highly ironic), and Garnishinh For Dummies.

...no, I'm not kidding. Garnishing. Not even Cooking For Dummies. What are we going to do with a book about garnishing food? We can barely work the oven!

My life is occasionally ridiculous. At least I get to comfort myself with frappucinos.

Oh, and I made a new sleep/nighttime playlist for the summer. It's 33 (hopefully familiar) songs long. Anyone want to guess what's on it? Whoever gets the most gets...well, I don't actually know since this is the Internet and all. But something good. Really.

said the joker to the thief

today's title comes from all along the watchtower, originally by bob dylan and covered by every decent musician of the last 20 years. if you don't have it already, download it.

i've been a bad, bad blogger. let's just call april the month of bad blogging and leave it at that. and i'd like to think that i'll make it up to you next month but...prom. and AP exams. so my blogging will probably remain sporadic until at least early june.

so, before i talk about anything else, i think i'll update you on my life. yes, i know - you've all been waiting on the edge of your seats for this.

the highs? b day early release turning into the Hijack Empty Classrooms to Watch The Amazing Race on a Promethean Board Club. getting fours and fives on my econ and gov practice exams. new books. new makeup. forgetting lunch at home and having the momster's assistant drop off robeks and chocolate covered strawberries. glee. bones. kings of leon tour dates being announced. having audrey hepburn on a shirt.

the lows: calc. physics. homework. ap exams. realtors and buyers and sellers being in and out of the house at all hours of the day and night shrieking things like "the contract hasn't been ratified yet!" and "what's it's mris number?" and "oh my god will you all shut up?"

...okay, maybe that last one was me. but in all fairness it was extremely annoying having to listen to real estate talk the one time i actually finished my homework and went to bed early.

minor complaints aside, i've been feeling pretty lucky lately. maybe it was the unexpected smoothie windfall today, or the even more unexpected side-trip to tyson's to get this:

and this (in air guitar):

or maybe it's just that i'm glad not to be a rape victim with multiple personalities (see my last post). lately i've been thinking that life? it's been pretty good to most of us so far.

i've kept a list of quotes as long as i can remember. some of the notebooks are so old the pages are actually starting to yellow (don't worry - the glitter gel pen remains as bright as ever) and i actually have to squint to render my oh-so-lovely-hearts-and-stars-over-the-letter-i middle school handwriting legible. i looked through a few of them last night and found it ironic that two of the first things i wrote down could be summed up like this: great art comes from great suffering.

i haven't suffered. not really. if anything, i've been stupidly, ridiculously lucky in life. i might complain about the parents (a lot) or school (even more) but...i got parents who spoiled and loved me. maybe a little too much, actually, since if they'd just had the decency to deprive me a little bit i might be a little more prepared for life in the Real World, but i digress. and school? well, we all complain, but deep down most of us like it. for one thing, none of us would know each other without it. and for another thing, none of us would be reading, writing, or blogging without the wonderful benefits of education - something millions of children in the world still go without.

so maybe i'm not yet capable of creating great art. well, i already knew that - why do you think i'm going to college? and maybe i'm one of those people who you can look at and say, "well, nothing really bad has ever happened to her." i've got thinky thoughts nonetheless.

banana will be blogging about this pretty soon, so i'm not going to delve into this too much (right now) but -

remember when my lit class was reading the poisonwood bible and i dragged out my poor, defeated little copy from freshman year and went back to being in love with it? i don't think i ever blogged this quote, but it's one of the first that i highlighted:

According to my Baptist Sunday-school teachers, a child is denied entrance to heaven merely for being born in the Congo rather than, say, north Georgia, where she could attend church regularly. This was the sticking point in my own little lame match to salvation: admission to heaven is gained by the luck of the draw. At age five I raised my good left hand in Sunday school and used a month's ration of words to point out this problem to Miss Betty Nagy. Getting born within earshot of a preacher, I reasoned, is entirely up to chance. Would Our Lord be such a hit-or-miss kind of Saviour as that? Would he really condemn some children to eternal suffering just for the accident of a heathen birth, and reward others for a privilege they did nothing to earn?

it's a question we all have at one point or another, and i don't think we will ever know answer. god isn't something you can understand; faith isn't a cheat-sheet to all the universe's mysteries, just your place in it.  in other words, there are just some things that we aren't supposed to know because we're human (hopefully). we are supposed to question and argue and grow.

oh, growth. it's a complicated word. for most people, it carries pleasant connotations of preteen growth spurts and too-short pajama bottoms and passing average height. the rest of us mostly hear it and feel bitter. sometimes we even use it to talk about moral growth. sometime like today, i mean.

like it or not, the world has changed a bit since the inklings roamed the streets of oxford smoking pipe tobacco and having Serious Theological Debates. we are, in the words of one lovely new york times article, a generation raised on "pulp and not substance" (if anyone else read that article, mind sending me the link? i never emailed it to myself and i want to reread it). there are people whose only goal in life is to be famous or date someone wealthy, and instead of being the exception, one only has to look at mtv, e!, tlc, or any other television channel besides cnn and fox, to see that they're becoming the rule. these are supposed to be our role models and peers.

basically, we're screwed. see will smith for details:

so what do we do? are we supposed to sit around all day and contemplate life? it's doable, i guess, especially if we add cigarettes and fedoras and french garrets in paris into the mix. we can all swan around looking wan and miserable and contemplating important questions about life, god, death, and the universe. (if you get that song reference, you get a cookie). for true authenticity we should try absinthe and practice sighing asthmatically. oh, and bonus points if you die of consumption.

or, we join the mtv-worshipping, twilight-loving, abercrombie- and hollister-wearing, d-list wannabes that seem to make up half our generation. instructions include buying an edward cullen poster, listening to nothing but top 40 music, and having no original thoughts or ideas.

i don't know about you, but i kind of hate both of those options. i'm not a genius, though - i'm not entirely sure what's behind door number three. i guess that this whole post has actually been one long, rambling, grammatically incorrect way of asking - who am i? what am i? and where do i go from here?

because most of us reading this have the same source material, if you will. we're all lucky. we're all pretty smart or just plain pretty, i love you all for being good-looking, not that i'm shallow or anything. and as soon as we entered this world shrieking with all of our considerable lung power, things started influencing us - family and friends, religion and pop culture. literature. music. the woman you bumped into on the street and the homeless person you pretended not to see. school and work and ideas and plans. that vague picture in the sky that alternately looks like a castle or a prison but is always, always labelled The Future, in capital letters that block out everything else. falling back on someone else's words is easy, so i'll let chuck palahniuk say it better: "nothing of me is original. i am the combined effort of everyone i have ever known."

so i guess that's where i'm going to leave off. mostly because those are the conclusions i managed to reach in my allotted time on the think thought train today. after that i got distracted by the momster's clients offering me cookies and ice cream cake (it was great) and makeup and books and making silly allusions to books everyone has read but which i'll quote anyway. my relationship with life is very, very complicated (take that facebook).

and i can never leave a post without sharing music, so here's lissie's latest:

i hope you have more luck with this than me

this blog is brought to you by death cab for post titles or something like that. alternatively, today's title comes from your new twin sized bed by death cab for cutie. what can i say? i've been rediscovering them this week - i accidentally caught an episode of the o. c. and it rekindled my ben gibbard love. here, listen to it so you can obsess with me:

so i was a lazy blogger again. blame cookie and calculus. cookie turned up the cute levels this week, so he's been swanning around the house looking extra fluffy and puppy-eyed. i've got a low tolerance for doggy-resistance (see: lulu forgiveness following the murder of headphones 3, 4, & 5). even if i'd spent hours making silly faces and spouting baby talk at a very unimpressed dog i still would have time to blog - or i would if it wasn't for calculus. to fully understand my feelings on math, i refer you to tim gunn:

oh, project runway. i miss the days when you were still good. i haven't even watched this season.

however, i have been wishing i could wield a sewing machine like one of the project runway contestants. mostly so i could make myself this:

and this - although before any of you start making faces, i want them to wear under tank tops. i think it'd be cute. especially with heaps of necklaces. and - oh, i'm not fooling anyone. we all know i'm going to be wearing one by itself around the house and answer the door just in time to traumatize some of the traveling mormons or something:

of course, if i keep on eating like i've been doing lately i won't fit into any of them and so the poor mormons' eyes will be spared. i say this because i am finishing up a bowl of cookies n cream ice cream. and once i am three thousand pounds i will waddle into the math work room brandishing a spoon and screaming "you! you did this to me! your soul-crushingly hard tests have driven me to drink and ice cream binges and hard drugs."

ahem. not that i've pictured this in any great detail.

now, onto the music...

here's my favorites from the last two days:

this video is so fun:

i've actually been listening to the original, but the video for this version is so much more fun:

and one last death cab song:

watch the last wall collapse

today's title comes from matt nathanson's sooner surrender. it's such a cute song, go listen to it.

i've been absent for blogging lately. surprisingly this was caused by neither surprise illness or a sudden binge of tv-watching (although i am watching the daily show right now. i love sesame street michael steele). nope, i've just been too lazy or silly to blog.

you see, as a result of the momster only having to pay around $2000 for college, life has been very, very good lately. and by 'good' i mean that she's been dropping me off at fair oaks after school with a credit and a commandment to play. which i have. among other things i bought a ton of books - i just finished reading elizabeth kostova's the historian, more on that later - and clothes and sandals. mostly, though, i spent my money on makeup.

here's my favorites:

clockwise, from top: smashbox camera-ready concealer, guerlain insolence primer, makeup forever mat velvet foundation, estee lauder nail polish in pink champagne, smashbox lash plumper mascara, urban decay eyeliner in zero, sephora eyeshadow in milestone and mad for macaroons, and urban decay eyeshadow in baked

i'm pretty happy with my haul. the weather lately has been making me really want more bronze- and gold-toned makeup. plus i had the people at MAC and sephora do my makeup and pick my foundation, which saved me a lot of indecisive "does this one or this one match me better" wavering in front of the mirror.

i had a few other adventures at the mall, but i'll save them for another day. i know, i know. cop out. but i'm tired - stupid calc homework/flashcards. they took so long last night. it wasn't even hard - i just had no idea what to include on the cards since the descriptions were so vague. ugh, i don't even understand why we still have to go to school. can't we just graduate already? there's still another quarter to go.

anyway, there's one more joyous piece of news i wanted to share with you. i'm going to get fat! and i don't even mind. this is why:

yep, those are panera sandwiches. and salads. and soup and green tea. not pictured are the giant baskets of bread and pastries and cookies from them that are filling up our kitchen.

it's all the momster's fault. once a month her real estate firm does like a conference-type thing and panera caters it. but since they're all talking business no one ever eats anything and the people in her office split up the food. yep, that's right - all of that's a fraction of the original mountain of food. nevertheless, we won't be able to grocery shop - well, for anything besides ice cream/freezer food and dry goods - for a week. it's going to take forever to eat all of this. i'll try anyway. and by try, i mean that i'll open my fridge and do this:

Photobucket

now, just a quick note on the historian, which i mentioned earlier in this post. it's awesome. it's great to read a fun book that's actually well-written. it's wonderful to find an entertaining book that's better written than, say, the average dan brown novel. i guess i'm really just happy to read something about vampires that are actually scary. Comrade S-la, i hope you've inferred from this paragraph that this is going to be the latest addition to the communist book collective.

this is the song that i stole the title of this post from. listen to it, it's pretty:

and here's the song that i'm listening to now:

rhymes with ick

so my day was pretty awful. random muscle cramps and a fever last night lead to me being knocked out (who knew the dr. cray cray pills would come in handy after all?) until...five o'clock, actually. let me clarify  that: five p.m.

so i missed school today. surprisingly, that's a really, really bad thing. now i have to go in super early to make up that stupid calc test and i can only miss one more b day unless i want to take exams (i don't). life: it's depressing. luckily i had this to cheer me up:

oh, julian casablancas, don't ever change, okay? i'm not even kidding. just stay exactly the same forever and ever - dorian gray managed it, why can't you? oh, you don't want to enshrine your soul in a painting? well too bad.

that's the other thing i've been doing for the whole four hours i've been awake: rereading the picture of dorian gray. i really want to see the movie version with silly prince caspian ben barnes as dorian.

for those of you still undecided about watching skins (jeni), here's yet another reason why you should get over british televisions' unique definition of censorship and watch anyway:

Photobucket

this is from season two. chris is basically the best character on the show. besides cassie. and maxxie. and tony. and effy (oh my god, effy. her last episode just about killed me). besides the episode this is from is all about the school's attempt to put on a show...called Osama: The Musical. i know.

anyway, i'm still feeling pretty awful (and have to continue studying for calc since the makeups are usually a billion times worse than the regular tests) so i'm going to cut this post short. goodnight, moon all you cray crays.

two posts in one day? inconceivable!

don't worry, though - this is more of a drive-by post. expect the lapd to show up any second now wielding baseball bats and machetes and...who am i kidding? like i know anything about drive-bys.

anyway, i'm just stopping by to share this little picture with you:

it's a highly accurate summary of my day. also, if any of you have the great misfortune to see me first thing in the morning, i will henceforth refer you to this very post as an excuse for any half-dead grunting, snapping, or suicidal behavior you may have witnessed.

oh, and just so you all know, i just got back from a quick run to starbucks. The Drink (in venti. venti. but we were the last people there and since i'm still studying for my calc test there won't be any midnight runs to the frederick starbucks tonight) and i were highly amused to find this at the top of our tumblr dashboard.

i'm listening to i gave you all by mumford and sons. the end of this is so shivery and perfect. i'm assuming you've all been good little readers and youtubed them already, so i'm sure you all agree with me, right?

where in the world is carmen sandiego?

you probably don't know where carmen sandiego is (unless you're playing the game right now, in which case i congratulate you for managing to play and read this at the same time) but i'll let you know where i am: the ashburn keller williams realty office. that's right, i'm helping the momster with more paperwork since her secretary's still sick. she's still in a meeting so i'm just playing around on the computers now. they're nicer than the school computers but more complicated - i just don't understand windows. i miss my compy. here, in honor of mac owners everywhere let's just take a minute (or ten) to appreciate the wonders of apple computers:

today wasn't very eventful. a Certain Person got my hopes up with hints of a visit today and then never came. i totally felt like the little, let down kid in disney movies whose parent never, ever makes it to the baseball game in time. i was horridly depressed for an entire seven minutes. then i realized i still had a whole box of thin mints in my purse and immediately perked right back up. today's been a snack-filled day, actually. we had goldfish in yearbook and i munched on twix bars during gov. mona and i got to the halfway point in the thin mints while she saved my calculus grade during early release.

s-la might want to look away now. i'm about to share my incredible love of mumford & sons. and after that i'm going to obsess over skins some more. really, steffi, you might just want to stop reading here.

well, now that she's gone, let's talk music. specifically, mumford & sons. they're fairly well known. not on, like, a lady gaga/britney spears/that-devil-child-cyrus level, but they've been building up a decent amount of buzz on blogs (actual music blogs, i mean, not just the random whiny teenage ones like...this one actually. although now that you mention it, this whiny teenager did mention them a few times between december and february, since i put them on at least two playlists i posted. if PCs weren't the most evil things in existence and i could actually use windows i would look the posts up myself, but otherwise you'll have to take my word for it or do your own search of the...oh my giddy aunt, has it really been 177 posts? geez.)

but back to the music. mumford & sons are a british folk/rock band. and that's not one of those weird genres that some music blogger made up just to appeal to hipsters like, i don't know, classic electro indie rock/pop or dubstep. it's actually a fairly accurate label - to me, at least, they really do sound like the love child of, like, the entire cast of skins an orgy really is the only thing left to do on that show it is so ridiculous and i love it the cute british boy from what a girl wants (that movie where amanda bynes realize that she's the embodiment of every romantic comedy aimed at teenage girls ever) and kings of leon when they were still drunk crackheads a bunch of hillbillies. don't ask me how i reached this conclusion. i'm not an actual reviewer (but listen to them anyway so i can send you all loads of text messages filled with nothing but exclamation points and DID YOU LISTEN TO THE LIVE PERFORMANCES YET? and other caps locky text), but i think i more or less formed my opinions from the fact that they use an acoustic guitar and a banjo and in, like, every song ever and still sound awesome. i keep hoping they'll pull out a cowbell on their next album.

wow, that paragraph was terribly rambly. blame the PC. i have to go now, so go youtube them yourselves. or wait about half an hour and when i'm done doing real life things i'll post some more.

"has that window been open the whole time?"

nothing much happened today. i woke up (on time), had breakfast (for once), had lunch packed for me remembered to eat lunch, and then played taboo for an hour during early release. today's title actually came from the game. we, being loud, obnoxious, and occasionally filthy-minded (okay, that last one was mostly confined to tess and i), were a little horrified to realize that one of the classrooms facing into the senior courtyard had its windows open. specifically, the classroom directly behind the table we were sitting at.

you know how i always say i hate life? i'm pretty sure it's made the decision to hate me back.

in slightly related news, buzzer club today was hilarious. i can't really post the story on this blog (well, i could, but it wouldn't be a very good idea), but i thought i'd post about the fact that the story exists so you can all remember to ask me about it. because you're all that interested in my oh-so-boring life.

gina already posted about how awful calculus is, so i won't even bother. someone still needs to come up with a label for her. (i'm looking at you, s-la, you're the best at naming things). here, i'll even present you with an incentive to come up with something (since i can't threaten to hold your books hostage anymore)

Photobucket

isn't he pretty? i love robert downey jr.

i'm listening to wild world by cat stevens, mostly because sarah was listening to it when she borrowed my ipod and i like the song too much to change it. predictably, i have homework to do. in a surprise twist, though, i'm actually going to do it at home. shocker, i know. i'm trying to kick senioritis' butt. wish me luck?

"you have flapper hair"

today's title is courtesy of s-la, in reference to the New Hair which you might remember me mentioning on friday. lately my judge of a good haircut has been based on one factor: what it looks like first thing in the morning. sadly, i was too blegh this morning to snap a picture, but i did take a nap when i got home from school today (why, yes, i am that boring) and had the presence of mind to snap a picture. in other words, here are your before and after shots. form your own opinions on The Hair.

(after school: don't i look cheery? yeah, i didn't think so either)

 (post-nap bedhead)

in other news, my ipod is on its way to the apple store, after days of waiting. i neglected to accompany it since the last time i went in there they greeted me by name. in other words, i've broken one too many gizmos and thingamees to feel comfortable setting foot in an apple store for the next two years.

today was a mixture of boring and horrible. in other words, i went to lit, calc, and physics. lit sans a teacher and calc with a quiz (thankfully it was a partner quiz, though, so thank god for stephanie) were both horrifically boring and physics was an exercise in endurance. you know those classes where you have to pinch yourself to keep from drifting off? that's physics for me.

thankfully things have started looking up. this is mostly because i'm on frappucino number two of the day, but also due to naptime, series four of skins, and fleet foxes. oh, and i finished my homework early for once.

i think i'm going to cut today's post short - i've got some reading to catch up on. top of the list? nightlight, that twilight parody i blogged about way back when.

for those of you wanting a real blog post

lit and calc tomorrow. been studying all day, with breaks for idol and food. commentary will follow eventually.

now listening to: josie by blink-182. it's been a j kind of day, musically speaking. i don't know why, i just felt like skipping to the j section of my itunes and hitting shuffle. highlights? jesus christ by brand new, jack's lament by danny elfman (all caps are just not gonna happen, danny boy), jolene by ray lamontagne, the jokes with guitar by demetri martin (who's coming back to comedy central soon!), juicy by better than ezra, jumper by third eye blind, and je dis aime by -m-. j songs are pretty good, i'm thinking. also, when combined, they made one weird study playlist.

does anyone else study with music? i'm finding that it helps a lot. like, when i'm going over notes i usually end up remembering whatever was on them to the tune of the song that was playing when i studied them. like in this morning's econ exam, i remembered the definition of economies and diseconomies of scale to ellie goulding's the writer. and the whole slew of tiny formulas for total revenue and average total cost and marginal revenue and cost and all the rest of them were memorized to the tune of grandma got run over by a reindeer (oh, itunes shuffle, never quit on me, k?).

oh, and before i wrap this post up, s-la, this is for you. and it is not a cover song and you should've known better, notey jr. and i are highly disappointed in you.

i'm a busy busy bee

homework. calc quiz tomorrow. play tonight. trying to write my yearbook stories. they're quite awful. and i don't have the quotes page for one, so there's just like giant, all caps, insert quote heres in the middle of it. my music of the moment? i'd start a revolution by aimee allen. it's such a throwback song - it was the soundtrack to my first myspace page, way back when people besides musicians and companies still used myspace. here, have something that made me giggle.

nothing you can do but learn how to be in time

a commercial came on with all you need as love as its soundtrack. the original (well, it was remastered but still the beatles) and not one of the crappy pop covers commercials always play. it was pretty happy-making.

cookie's christmas shirt is pretty happy-making too. it even has a little green hood! less happy is the fact that he had a bath five days ago and is already messy. silly doggy, does he have to roll around in the grass outside?

i presented my government project today. it was surprisingly easy to do even though i hate presenting things. speaking in front of the class is never fun, why do teachers make us do it?

i'm avoiding my calc homework now. i started it, so never fear that i'll, like, flunk out of school now (is that even possible? according to my guidance counselor the only graduation requirement i have left is gov). i'm just putting off finishing it because it is long and evil. EVIL. here's how i've procrastinated so far:

adventures in cheeseballing

i finished my related rates project! a full week early, which means i get five (badly needed) extra credit points.

oh, and i'm dogwalking again this week. yet another crazy schedule. so i headed over today after yearbook (i stayed after school for that today. there's so much to do! i just wish i could have stayed longer) and ended up locked out. of every door. like, the key literally wouldn't turn in the lock (and it was the right key, too, i triple-checked). and it's happened before, but in the past i could always just go through the back door.

the thing is, to get through the back door, you have to go through the gate that lets you in the backyard. the gate which had rusted shut. luckily, cheeseball's owner's neighbors are very nice (and had things to drop off and pick up from their garage) and brought a ladder so we could climb over the fence into the backyard and use the back door.

which makes this house number two that i've broken into since halloween.

don't worry, i remembered to pry open the backyard gate so i can get in again. maybe tomorrow morning i'll take a picture? i'm just glad i didn't have to cheeseball this morning, since i was already at school at 7:30 to check my calculus project (which is done! early!) with my partner. 7:30 in the morning. i know, i'm shocked too.

oh, and tomorrow is buzzer club (otherwise known as academic bowl). i think certain people named s-la should come along.

here's a soundtrack to my day today (now with commentary):

round here - counting crows (it played during my attempts to break into casa de cheeseball, mostly because i forgot to take out my earbuds) i'd post the music video but universal's full of nazis that disabled embedding on their youtube account.

white horse (taylor swift cover) - jordan mccoy (her voice is interesting. i wish she'd done the full cover)

over my head (cable car) - a day to remember (this is another cover, this time of the fray. but we already know i love covers. thank god for punk goes pop, right?)

the ballad of serenity - sonny rhodes (i was feeling some joss whedon nostalgia. when i have the time, i will finally watch dollhouse.)

school - supertramp (do i have to explain why i was listening to this?)

anthems for a seventeen-year-old girl - broken social scene (ditto.)

battle of who could care less - ben folds five (no, really, i should have to explain this least of all)

seventeen - kings of leon (it's kings of leon.)

still have homework to do. and the daily show/colbert report hour of happiness to listen to while i do said homework. i feel like having them on in the background subliminally influences me to be more snarky when i'm doing homework, and if there's anything those sadists masquerading as my teachers deserve, it's snark.
